Even when your starting from the beginning, remember you’re never starting from scratch. There’s always something there. There’s always provision. You might not think it enough, but give thanks, and get to work. You might just see it multiply.

In a world that advocates for specialization being a jack of all trades is seen as a poor outcome for the investment of time and energy necessary.
For years I focused my learning in the world of tap dance. Craftwork was where I put my attention. But there was a whole world around it that I encountered, and had to deal with, but never really focused on.
The world is changing. The gig economy is forcing more and more people who have specialized in the past into freelance jobs, becoming the CEO of Me, INC., and now they have to deal with everything.
It’s not only about the primary skill set, anymore, but every other skill we bring to the table, too. It’s about how we deal with everything while still focusing on what we believe to be important. It’s about taking in all of life, and making the choices necessary to discover the path marked out for you – through everything.
There is always a day after the day. Sometimes an event takes up so much of our field of view that we forget about what happened next. What we did after is a blur. Foggy from the cloud of attention that we paid to the event itself.
In this day after the first day of the year, let us remember that an accumulation of little things is as important as the few big things that make up our memories. Every day is full of little things that can give the day its purpose, whether we find ourselves in individual rest, work, play, or sharing time with others.
So the next time a major event clouds our day, here’s to remembering the day after the day.
