In every creative endeavor there are a number of variables in play. One is the context, that is the environment in which we will be creating. Are there any parameters or guidelines that the context dictates? Another is the stuff we will be playing with. What’s the medium? Is anything predetermined by the medium itself? And then there is the wild card: The Players.
Context and medium seem to change when approached by different players. Our own experience of the creative process is dependent on our collaborators engagement, and how they like to play. It is the particular person in the particular role that can be the deciding factor between good and great, or mediocrity and failure.
If you’re in a position of leadership, care for your players, get to know them, support the formation of the ensemble and you will be witness to one of the greatest gifts: a dynamic group of human beings playing together for a common goal.
