True Learners are Different

March 5, 2019

In the world of tap dance education there seems to be a desire to get to the next thing – quickly. If someone takes one course, directly they want to know what’s next. As if to say, “What more can I learn?”

As an admittedly fast/impatient learner I have been guilty of this in the past. But as I look back on my learning experiences, it is when I spent time around a single teacher for extended periods that provided true learning (breadth and depth). And the experiences were always spread over multiple encounters and long periods of time.

If we are learners, let’s not have a consumer mentality. Engage as one who desires truth from their teachers, who will be resilient in the search for it and the practice of it, and who is trustworthy with the knowledge they’ve already been given so that more may be entrusted to you.

The journey will be different. We all will be different.
