Thoughtful reflections, inspirations, or instigations. It depends on the day.

Have You Climbed a Chair Today?

March 2, 2019

I was riding the bus the other day when a young child boarded the bus. They walked toward a seat and went about climbing onto it. Once seated they began humming a song, swinging their legs (which didn’t touch the ground), and playing with their hat. The next game had already begun in their world.

Do you remember when climbing onto a chair was an accomplishment to be celebrated? Do you remember when climbing onto things was a joyful part of exploring of the new world we were discovering?

I hope we never lose that enjoyment of achieving the simplest of things. And if we have, I hope we find a way of regaining it. Each of those moments warrants a hi-five. We can and should continually encourage one another in the small things. It’s actually the least we can do. If we all took care of the small things around us, maybe the bigger things would take care of themselves…
