Thoughtful reflections, inspirations, or instigations. It depends on the day.

Surviving the Crash

February 7, 2018

After every project and main event, something happens. I move quickly from a feeling of wholeness, completeness, and fulfillment, to the not quite opposite. Then after a few days, I’m back to my regular ways.

I’m not alone. It happens to others, too. I asked my friends to be sure. They affirmed my experience.

The first step for me has been recognizing that this happens. It’s consistent, and there is a reason. I still working to discern the reason for my crashes. In the meantime, I’ve pulled together a list of things that have helped me and some of my friends to diminish or avert the effects of the crash. Here are the top 6:

  1. Schedule time for the crash.
  2. Travel to a place that doesn’t remind you of the work.
  3. Sleeping (especially without feeling guilty about it).
  4. Communing with nature.
  5. Reconnecting with people, friends, and colleagues you haven’t seen because of the intense focus of the work.
