Thoughtful reflections, inspirations, or instigations. It depends on the day.

Not Everyone Wants to be Coached

February 9, 2018

When I was 17 I called Ted Levy and asked him if he would kick my behind. I wanted to be put in a dance studio and worked out. I had been isolated from the group of dancers I had formerly been connected to and found myself stuck. I needed a kick. Ted said yes. It was an special experience.

Being coached is hard. The whole point of the exercise is for something specific to change, for growth to happen, or for one’s general vision to shift. Many of us hold on to consistency as if our lives depended on it, even if the consistency is not healthy. We know better, but something stops us from even making the call.

Before we fall into a rabbit hole of why we don’t do the things we know we should, stop everything, and make the call.
